Elegant and refined, the colors and materials used throughout this transformative renovation lend themselves to a truly refreshing feel. Builder, Jonathan Bailey of HGH Construction, LLC, worked to craft a cohesive and timeless new take on a traditional home.
The two-story great room is filled with natural light and welcoming colors. The fireplace is stacked stone all the way to the ceiling, emphasizing the volume of the space. A warm gray on the walls and blue accents in the furnishings evoke an approachable yet timeless look. Meanwhile, patterns in the rug and other fabrics continue the traditional elements of the home. A warm white color on the trim and refinished hardwood floors are subtle touches of the refreshed finery. As Bailey shares, “This home has great bones but really needed a refresher to bring it up to date. We took the hardwood floors to a darker custom stain as we refinished them to get away from the yellow undertones. Colors and materials throughout gave this home a beautiful facelift. It just feels so much lighter now.”
The great room is open to other main living spaces in the home, including a peaceful and uplifting morning room. Situated just beside the kitchen, this morning room is ideal for intentional conversation, relaxation, enjoying a cup of coffee, or having weeknight meals with immediate family. As Jodi Brewer of JL Brewer Designs, LLC says, “The addition of beams and a window seat were fresh updates that really made this room feel like a new take on traditional styling.” A sublime shade of pale blue-green enhances the feelings of freshness and an uplifted atmosphere. Two swivel chairs, positioned across from each other, create a unique room flow and an invitational feel. A weathered finish on the furniture accentuates this room’s fantastic natural light sources. Brewer confirms, “The light in here is so dreamy; it seemed this room should really be used more. We took it from an often-unused space to a new favorite retreat.”
“The kitchen was an incredible transformation,” Bailey shares. “It fits the space much better now, and the island was a dramatic update.” Updating the kitchen was largely about establishing a better workflow. The straight and spacious island adds seating as well as a large working surface.
As Jackie Howard of Scarlett’s Cabinetry explains, “The updated linear design of the island offers added storage and really modernizes the kitchen. We also added glass-front doors to break up the white paneled wood doors of the upper cabinetry, which was such a nice option to keep the kitchen light and airy.”
The island is dressed in a custom stain on hickory and blends well with the style of the home. The stunning island countertop is a large slab of quartz, which looks strikingly similar to marble. “With the addition of a second sink in the island, tray and cutlery dividers in the cabinetry, as well as two different ways to store spices, oils, and vinegars, this family can prepare meals together quite efficiently,” Howard adds.
Nestled between white perimeter cabinets, glazed porcelain subway tile in the backsplash continues this elegant appearance, as does the custom fabricated and finished hood. Modern amenities, such as the pelletized ice maker, and other high-end appliances make for a functional space as well.

From the renovated kitchen, a gorgeous butler’s pantry leads into the dining room. The butler’s pantry was updated with a brick veneer wall and a state-of-the-art beverage center. Ideal for entertaining, the new pass-through pantry (pictured on previous page) established an organized staging area and also allowed for a deeper pantry expansion in the room right beside it. Walking from the kitchen into this formal dining room, the color change promotes a more relaxed ambiance. In here, a stunning new chandelier, supplemental lighting, and antiqued mirrored sconces all play into a more elegant aesthetic. Mixed prints in similar shades lend a sense of whimsy and wonder while maintaining a common theme.
In the master bedroom, blues blend with whites, grays, and silvers to deepen the sense of tranquility. A truly opulent feature in this room is the shimmering wallpaper. “I was most excited to reveal this room to the homeowners. Its dramatic transformation was in part due to the shimmery patterned wallpaper behind the upholstered bed,” Brewer shares. Tufted stools mimic the tufted headboard, while gray-washed nightstands provide a perfectly weighted balance to the plush yet airy linens. With a beautiful blend of soft hues and textures, this peaceful retreat is truly a dreamy escape.
The adjoining master bathroom was completely redesigned to have a smarter, more spacious layout. A “his and hers” vanity division also allowed for a large, glass-enclosed and fully tiled shower in one corner, right beside a lovely freestanding soaking tub. Marble-look porcelain tiles cut in large squares flow from flooring up the wall, creating an extremely luxurious look. Heated floors and remote-controlled blinds are just a few of the additional modern amenities.
“Our goal was to keep the master bath light and airy, so choosing a light gray painted finish for the cabinetry with a quiet quartz material on the countertops was the perfect palette to go with their marble tile selections and achieve the modern spa environment they wanted,” Howard explains.
This room and the entire home received a refreshing transformation to find its way to an updated take on timeless traditional styles.
