ANNUAL HOMES & DESIGN ISSUE
Photos by Chris Hendrix/Creative Revolver

Located in the busiest part of the city, beautifying and maximizing the homeowners’ limited space were the main objectives for this plunge pool. Customized and precisely fitted to hug the hillside that it sits in, the contoured ledges blend seamlessly into the landscape to provide a relaxing oasis. The eye is immediately drawn to the terraced retaining wall with its perfect blend of cool and warm natural stone veneer. Entering through the submerged corner steps, individuals can relax in the hillside’s shadow or soak up the sun on the cozy sun shelf. The masonry, naturally reflecting the existing home and scenery, continues up the hillside in rustic slab stone stairs that appear more earth-formed than man-made; their destination leads to a stone alcove with two lounge chairs, providing additional relaxation. Specifically designed to grow with the space, the landscape will eventually drape down the walls and further blend the design with the area’s natural beauty.
