A Georgian Style Dream Home

Feature Home

Timeless tradition gets an elegant refresh in this home built by Dexter White of Dexter W. White Construction. “When I first approached this build, I really wanted to create something that fit in with the other homes in the community,” explains White. “It can take some forethought to do that – to create a new home that doesn’t stick out among the others. On top of that, I mainly wanted this build to be classic and timeless.”
A home run when staying true to style, this residence has the symmetry that is so characteristic of Georgian architecture. Duality can be witnessed in everything from the windows and shutters to the columns and charming gas lanterns that dot the façade. White painted brick is a refined selection that allows the double mahogany doors to make a lasting first impression.

Treating Finishing Touches With Care

Stepping into the foyer, one of White’s favorite features comes into play with a wrought iron railing topped with a bronze cap that beckons old-world appeal. “I would consider the interior of this home to be a little more transitional, but we still tried to incorporate these more unique traditional features to pay homage to the exterior,” says White. “This one in particular is very high-quality and is something you won’t find in many homes. We also flared it out at the end for extra character.”

Open to the entryway is the home’s formal dining room where detailed trim work continues the traditional touches. A striking wooden table in the middle of the room accommodates six and is centered below a soft, brushed bronze chandelier. These materials – when paired with the area rug, wall paint, and euro-pleated drapery – deliver a neutral décor sense that is careful to not overwhelm the senses.

The family room carries through the no-fuss décor style with its repetition of earth tones, which range from the cream of the walls and precast limestone fireplace to the tufted leather taupe ottoman. A pair of armchairs to the right adds another neutral hue to the mix, while qīng-huā pottery introduces a bit of color. A wood-burning fireplace creates an intimate and cozy atmosphere that is accentuated by the presence of a candle-style chandelier. Wall-to-wall built-ins flank the fireplace, and museum lighting is a well-received detail.

Following the white oak flooring into the kitchen, guests are greeted with a warm and spacious design. Velvety calacatta matarazzo marble countertops are paired with a marble backsplash that features a picture-framed mosaic just behind the range. Double-stacked, shaker-style cabinetry stretches to the ceiling and incorporates the thick, meticulous trim – also present in the range hood – that is found throughout the remainder of the home.
The island’s quarter-sawn oak base is effortlessly coupled with four cross-back barstools for a natural aesthetic. Even more woods can be found in a nearby dining area that contains a large rectangular table and mismatched chairs. This entire space is defined by a tongue-and-groove ceiling, which provides a more playful disposition. The linear nature of the ceiling planks plays well with an over-island pendant, but is in direct opposition to the lighting of the dining area. These fixtures are outfitted once again in brushed bronze, which exists in tandem with the plumbing fixtures and hardware.

The give and take of traditional trimmings continues in the master suite. Simple millwork creates a subtle accent wall, and a stately tufted bed frame accommodates a king-size bed. The creams and beiges of the room are broken up only by the attendance of floral drapery, a comforter, and accent pillows.

Marble once again comes out to play in the master bathroom and not only comprises the floors, countertops, and shower, but can also be found traveling up the wall behind a sophisticated soaking tub. A floor-mounted faucet is outfitted in the home’s signature brushed bronze, and the pendant light hanging overhead features a drum shade that is an oversized but identical version of the fixtures in the main living space.

“Like with all homes, it can be difficult to envision what they are going to look like when everything is still on paper, and this one turned out so much better in person than I ever imagined,” says White. “We added embellishments and details where it mattered while keeping the overall style neutral and refined. That way, every room in the home starts out with a peaceful and calming feel, and it lets the homeowners add ornamentation as they see fit.”
