An Opulent Overlook

With striking views from every room, this elegant yet casual home boasts one of the best views in the Chattanooga area. Outdoor living areas and interior windows alike frame the scenic Tennessee River bend, the Walnut Street walking bridge, the Hunter Museum of American Art, and much more, all while being tucked quietly into a private hillside. European Exteriors

The exteriors of this home evoke a classic European aesthetic, with a long, curved roofline flowing from the main gable and the use of several other classic features. The dark toned roof, bronze metal shed roof, arched entryway, solid cedar beam window headers, wooden shutters, and pale painted brick all work to add that elegantly European flair. The sculpted evergreen shrubs and structured landscaping offer a hint of French specifics. The home’s exteriors are detailed and well thought out. “The look of this home is very classic, and it blends multiple architectural styles, including tudor, French provincial, and cottage. There are incredible brick details all the way around it. The exterior of the fireplace has an inset herringbone pattern, and there are brick corbels where the facade transitions to the roof in several places,” says Larry Waldrep of Waldrep Construction, LLC.

In the formal dining room, simplicity and traditional-style elements come together to create a sense of serene elegance. Custom wall paneling covers two-thirds of the walls, while the door casings and other trim work emphasize an elevated appearance. The deep gray accents pair perfectly with silver finishes on the chandelier and sideboard lamps. A Queen Anne-style dining room suite further accentuates the traditional and warm familiarity of family dining.

A lavish butler’s pantry features a beveled-edge subway tile backsplash, pale quartz countertops, and cabinetry in a custom hand-wiped gray stain on knotty alder. Glass-front doors lighten the look of upper cabinets, which are trimmed to the ceiling for a polished appearance.

Walking through the butler’s pantry, the kitchen and breakfast nook are accessible. “In the breakfast nook, we created nice built-ins around a window seat to add seating and storage,” says Waldrep. The trim around this focal wall continues a traditional style, while the furniture appeals to a comfortable family-style dining area. Views from this window and the door to the back porch can see the river.

In the kitchen, beautiful flat-panel shaker-style cabinets are painted a warm white and finished to the ceiling, creating a classic ambiance. The same beveled-edge subway tile backsplash from the butler’s pantry is used throughout the kitchen, while white quartz countertops keep the kitchen feeling fresh. The island is crowned by two lantern pendant lights and features the same white quartz countertop and hand-wiped gray stain on knotty alder cabinetry as in the butler’s pantry. Stainless appliances and an open layout keep this kitchen highly functional.

“One of my favorite things about this home is that it has really incredible views from almost every room of the house. There are multiple porches, and even from inside, the idyllic view of downtown Chattanooga is perfectly framed through most of their windows.” – Larry Waldrep, Waldrep Construction, LLC

In the master suite, a luxurious bathroom serves as the room’s en suite. A tranquil Tiffany blue tone covers the walls while white cabinetry, white quartz countertops and bathtub surround retain a timeless aesthetic. “The tall linen cabinet between the two vanities was a custom feature that adds a lot of functional space,” Waldrep shares. A chandelier over the bathtub nicely balances the subway tile and dark grout shower, keeping the room casually elegant.

Downstairs, the basement features a herringbone-patterned porcelain tile floor leading out to the lower lanai and patio areas. A specially shaped swimming pool with a seating shelf and sunbathing shelf is a focal point of this beautiful outdoor living area. Stunning brick archways bring back the European aesthetic of the exteriors.

From the back of the house, all of the outdoor seating areas are visible. The highest level deck serves as one of the most enviable vantage points in the whole house. Below that, a screened-in porch off the living room and kitchen serves as the largest porch, with a special grilling porch just to the side of it, supported by custom rough-sawn cedar brackets. “I think that porch is a really great feature. It’s cantilevered off of the home and supported by decorative brackets. It is a nice touch,” Waldrep says.

With great attention to detail, cozy interiors, and elegantly European exteriors, this home focuses on opulent outdoor living, complete with stunning Chattanooga views.
