When Billy McCoy of McCoy Homes started on this stunning waterfront build, he had two main goals – to show reverence for the scenic views, and to deliver on the homeowners’ beloved modern aesthetic. Around every turn, an unexpected element grabs guests’ attention, and sleek, streamlined design choices are layered for a home that is experienced rather than visited.

Upon approaching this stately residence, a subtle European aesthetic comes to the forefront. Rich brick accents pop against the light stonework that comprises the majority of the exterior. Numerous gables dot the sweeping roofline, and their varied orientation offers up visual interest, while an expansive wall of windows protrudes from the home’s façade just to the right of the entryway. This area is further defined by its gray color and metal awning and gives guests a glimpse at the elegance found throughout the remainder of the home.

Once inside the home, the European style that cloaks the exterior gives way to one that is much more contemporary. White leather furniture is situated in the center of the room, and pops of bright red flow from the artwork to the textiles.
The real crown jewel of this space, however, is the statement ceiling. “The homeowners really liked to include elements that make a statement but don’t detract from the other aspects of the room,” says McCoy. “We did this by creating a recession over the living space, and then within that, we installed this black coffered basket weave ceiling. It definitely makes an impact, but at the same time still lets the view shine.”
The black of the ceiling is repeated with a nearby accent wall that offers up added texture with its use of wallpaper. Further color continuity is introduced with the presence of a large flat-screen TV and linear fireplace, which drives home the modern atmosphere.
Steps away, the home’s kitchen and dining space stay true to style. A square glass-top dining table seats eight, and an adjacent buffet area features the home’s signature pops of red among the African Gray cabinetry. Glass-front upper cabinets showcase a lineup of beautiful drinkware and serving dishes. In the kitchen, a different shade of gray can be found anchoring the island to the center of the room, while Snow Bound perimeter cabinetry gives the space a touch of brightness.

“This entire house turned out amazing, but we had a lot of fun with the kitchen,” explains McCoy. “Another example of a statement piece is the backsplash. It’s not so bold that it dominates the space, but it has this metallic sheen to it that feels similar to stainless steel. When it’s paired with the accent lighting on the top and bottom of the cabinetry, it really has a cool effect.”
In the master suite, fun and vibrant design choices reign once more. A tray ceiling offers an elegant feel, and various tones of gray can be found among the two-toned walls, abstract artwork, and high-pile rugs. Two red leather benches offer up a few seating options, and their chrome bases repeat the same material found in the unique ceiling fan.
In the master bathroom, a dramatic spherical chandelier hangs above a soaking tub that is nestled up to yet another high-impact choice – a statement wall comprised of textured wavy tiles. His-and-hers, wall-to-wall vanities are on opposite sides of the room, and each accommodates a trio of mirrors, which work to keep the space light. A charming arched threshold provides access to the walk-in shower, which is outfitted with a combination of black tiles in a herringbone pattern and classic large-format marble.

“This house is bold in some
instances and more refined when it needs to be,” says McCoy. “It’s fun and functional, and we were able to do a lot of cool, unique things in this house that make it one of a kind.”
While the interior of this striking home represents the best there is in contemporary design, not to be outdone is the two-tiered deck. Expansive waterfront views make this an entertainer’s paradise. A glass railing provides unobstructed sightlines, and several vignettes – from lounge chairs and Adirondack chairs to a pair of swivel seats and a dining table – are primed for gatherings of any size. Tongue-and-groove pine ceiling and tile flooring encapsulate the space, and these more neutral materials are sure to not compete with the surrounding landscape.
