Custom Kitchens: English Country Estate

The goal for this kitchen remodeling project was to recreate a space that was reminiscent of an English country estate, implementing cabinetry, furnishings and accessories with Old-World patina and warmth, while modernizing appliances and internal cabinet components for maximum efficiency and well-planned storage.  A dated peninsula was removed and an island was redesigned and reoriented to improve work spaces and traffic flow.

The interior design team chose colors for the space which were favorites of the homeowner— warm paprika and shades of rich chocolate, with accents of jade and tan. They also used warm-toned wallpapers reminiscent of old English estates. They paid special attention to the selection of lighting, accents and accessories that blended seamlessly into the Old-World vision for the space.

A custom finish was created for the cabinetry using glazed and distressed knotty alder wood on all cabinets.  The refrigerator was fitted with cabinet panels to disguise the large appliance, giving it the appearance of a large cupboard.  An Old-World style, chocolate glazed LaCanche range was hand-selected by the homeowner and imported from France weeks before the project began.  A distressed dark walnut wood countertop was used on the island, with honed Polo Brown limestone countertops on the perimeter cabinetry.  The use of “seedy” glass in areas of every cabinet also added to the antiquity of the room. The overall goal of the team on this project was to make the new kitchen feel as if it were original to the home, with warmth, comfort and great functionality.
