Real-World Learning at Silverdale Baptist Academy
By Ali Lemmons
At Silverdale Baptist Academy, education goes beyond the classroom. With the goal of preparing students for life after graduation, the school is creating opportunities for students to discover their strengths, explore career interests, and set themselves up for long-term success.
Through its expanding Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, Silverdale combines rigorous academics, hands-on technical training, and real-world experience to ensure all students have access to opportunities that align with their future aspirations, whether it’s further education, employment, or entrepreneurship.

A Vision for Purpose-Driven Learning
At the heart of Silverdale’s CTE program is a clear vision: every student graduates with purpose, practical skills, and a pathway to success. By combining strong academics with technical training, the program is designed to help students earn credentials and develop professional skills, ensuring they have everything they need for their future career path.
“Career and Technical Education complements our mission and plays an important role in student success, equipping them with both the academic foundation and real-world skills they need beyond graduation,” says Director of Special Programs Dr. Cindy Ford.
This approach ensures that learning is both relevant and effective. Students are encouraged to think critically, apply their knowledge, and begin building skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.
“Taking Career and Technical Education classes doesn’t mean choosing between CTE and college,” adds Ford. “Instead, they work together to help students see how learning is connected, preparing them for both higher education and future careers.”
A key component of Silverdale’s approach is its commitment to real-world learning. Through partnerships with industry leaders, higher education institutions, and community organizations, students are able to explore careers, earn credentials, and develop professional skills.

Expanding Opportunities for Students
Silverdale is actively expanding its offerings to create even more opportunities for students. Phase two of the school’s CTE program will introduce pathways in healthcare, construction, and media production. Silverdale will also begin offering an entrepreneurial studies pathway, equipping students with the necessary skills to build businesses and make a meaningful impact in their community.
“We’re not starting from scratch; we’re building on what we already do well,” shares Ford. “This is about expanding opportunities and giving our students more options to explore their interests and step confidently into their future.”
These pathways for high-demand fields offer students the chance to explore interests while gaining valuable, hands-on experience that can translate directly into future opportunities.
“We are offering more options at Silverdale, not changing our mission,” adds Ford. “These programs allow students to gain real-world experience while continuing to grow academically and spiritually.”

Preparing Students for What’s Next
Silverdale’s CTE program reflects their commitment to equity, innovation, and lifelong learning. By ensuring every student has access to opportunities aligned with their talents and aspirations, the school is preparing graduates to succeed in an ever-changing world.
With a focus on both calling and career, Silverdale Baptist Academy is shaping a generation of students who are prepared to lead, serve, and make a meaningful difference wherever they go.
