Friendship Bowl Trail Mix Recipe

After-School Special

These snacks are sure to be a hit for the before-dinner munchies.

Many school-aged kids have lunch early in the day, so by the time school wraps up, they’re likely more than a little hungry. The space between school and dinner can feel endless, and if you’re a parent, you’ve probably heard more variations of “I’m starving” and “What’s for dinner?” than you can count. Read on to find out what these Chattanoogans make to keep the growling tummies satisfied.

“When I attended Signal Mountain Elementary (now Mountain Arts Community Center), classmates brought a snack item to contribute to the weekly ‘Friendship Bowl.’ We combined it together in a cafeteria-size bowl and enjoyed it on the playground every Friday. The mixture was different every week, but these ingredients are the staples. The sweet and salty mix was a fun way to welcome in the weekend, and I revisit the memory every time I make it with my family.

Have fun with this recipe and tweak it to suit your family – or what you have in the pantry. Make it festive with candy corn, holiday M&Ms, or seasonally-flavored Cheerios.”
