A clear sightline straight through this home ensures that glistening lake views are never missed. With plans drawn by architect Louis Wamp to make expert use of the site, the team from RoMar Construction skillfully executed the creation of this stunning home.

Hardie siding outlined by columns of synthetic stacked stone frame the house. Reminiscent of Cape Cod, cedar shake shingles blanket the gables, and Douglas fir timber framing establishes the home’s façade. “All the timber framing was the most fun part of this project. It’s just real, true woodwork,” explains Mark Fuller of RoMar Construction. Wamp knew the location was a stunner, so creating clear sightlines from the front to the back of the house was emphasized by the glass-paneled front door, which looks out to the backyard, dock, and lake.
Through sliding glass doors in the kitchen, this outdoor dining space features calming lake views. When the weather is nice, this spot is a preferred place for the homeowners to enjoy breezy meals with family and friends. The exotic wood decking and custom-made Douglas fir beams make the area a woodsy retreat.

Customized Perfection
Buidling on the multiple features, colors, and patterns from the stacked stone, Hardie siding, and cedar shakes, Fuller and his team added some modern flair to the backyard. “We used a stainless steel rail cable and exotic wood on the decking,” explains Fuller. Beams created on site allowed Fuller and his team to build a spacious upper deck. A stone patio and fire pit were completed for a relaxing rest area, all customized to perfection. “All the radius beams were done on site and everything was custom,” he explains. Created by Carol MacKinnon of Ana Woodworks, the kitchen has a flowing layout. Bright white cabinetry makes this kitchen feel light and fresh. “Louis gave me a unique opportunity to design the kitchen before the walls and windows were placed,” MacKinnon says. With an L-shaped kitchen and center island, views are attained out to the lake and through to the attached living room. Clutter is concealed in ample perimeter cabinetry. “Keeping clutter out of the way of the beautiful lake view was important,” says MacKinnon. Quartzite countertops provide durability and a clean, minimalist look. Small glass tiles laid in a basket weave pattern serve as the focal point of the room, with green, blue, and taupe tones bringing in a nature-themed color splash. The alder wood island is washed with an antique stain, as is the top of the range hood. For accent, the hood’s lower portion is made of antique oak.
With an extended countertop, this dine-in area is the ideal place to spread out appetizers when entertaining. A wall of glass windows lets in treetop and lake views and makes the space feel like a part of nature. “In the back of the home, the waterfront side faces due north, and you can see up the river several miles,” Wamp says. “Each room is oriented as much as possible to get those views.”

The living room features classic furniture in a simple color scheme. Pewter-toned walls coat all downstairs common spaces in a subtle, subdued shade. A coffered ceiling with square detail adds architectural interest. Two wingback chairs look out to the lake, and, together with the cream couch and double club chairs, provide ample seating. A limestone mantel rests in the center of the room and is accentuated by a modern abstract painting. Built-in cabinetry flanks the mantel and features storage space below and display shelves above.

Cream-toned cabinetry makes the bathroom stand out. With quartz countertops and a freestanding tub, the room is a luxe retreat with window views. Large ceramic tiles in the shower couple with thin rectangular tiles, used on the backsplash in a horizontal pattern, to create a refreshing waterfall look.
The master bedroom is awash in a dreamy green-gray tone. Linen side tables with nail head trim flank the bed and a ruched comforter is pretty and plush.
Built specifically for the piano, this cathedral space was created to amplify the instrument’s acoustics. The room was crafted so that no direct sunlight would touch the piano, keeping it in pristine condition. “You don’t put a piano on an outside wall where it has temperature swing or sunlight hitting it,” explains Wamp. “This was built as an anti-room. When it’s played you can hear the music throughout the whole house.”
