Living Areas: Livable Sophistication

Designer Alice Davenport was tasked to transform this formal living room into a more inviting space, situated for comfortable evenings and friendly get-togethers. To give the room a peaceful feel and set off the bolder colors in the rug, Davenport chose a soft, pale salmon color for the walls and kept every piece of furniture neutral. The bay window adjacent to the fireplace provided the perfect space for a banquette. Davenport used a tailored tone-on-tone fabric and brought the salmon color in with five large pillows. A lamp on each side and framing curtains enhance the feel of a separate nook. Instead of using a typical border down the leading edge of the curtains, Davenport used an off-white band from the rod to the base of the windows and a darker beige band from the bottom of the window to the floor, creating a beautiful visual line across the space.

Color
Sangria-colored pillows provide delicate accents to the plush club chairs framing the fireplace. The demilune tables under twin mirrors are a soft green, pulling that color out of the carpet and to the eye. The contemporary coral glass lamps are the perfect accent popping off the soft walls.
