Squeezed into a closet-sized space under the stairs, this tiny powder room presented a unique design challenge. Since the square footage was so limited, interior designer Haskell Matheny, ASID, worked artistic elements into the very walls of the design. The vanity and toilet wall, designed by Artistic Tile, is a piece of art itself. The blue-gray limestone was cut to reveal the different shades in the stone, chiseled in a pattern reminiscent of birds in flight. Though the wall functions as a piece of art, the stone is very durable and easy to clean, perfect for a family with small children. The powder room’s sink and toilet are made of a bright, glossy stone that reflects every bit of light in the room. To create a stark contrast and add visual layers, the sink’s cabinetry is a dark cherry. A large metal-framed mirror also works to expand the space.
