Luxurious Baths: Technologically Luxurious

Insider info
Sapele wood (a cousin to mahogany) was used for the cabinets, shelving, mirror framing and tub surround. The countertops are Quartzite, and the heated flooring and shower are marble. The Japanese soaking tub by Kohler has an adjacent counter and storage shelving underneath for bath linens. Cut glass windows add faceted light.

sapele wood (a cousin to mahogany) was used for the cabinets, shelving, mirror framing and tub surround. the countertops are quartzite, and the heated flooring and shower are marbleThe challenge in creating this bath was to fit everything in the 122-square-foot space without feeling cramped. Every inch of space was “precious,” says architect Jay Caughman, and redesign was like “crafting a fine piece of jewelry.” The result of the puzzle was a unique bathroom with almost every amenity imaginable snugly fit in a space the size of a walk-in closet. Though the look is traditional, the technology hidden right beneath the surface is futuristic. The electric toilet includes lighting, heat and sound controls. The shower unit is gadgeted out, featuring music speakers, steam, nine showerheads, and LED lights all accessible within the shower. Controls in the shower access the clients’ personal computer playlists as well as audio from a TV hidden behind the large mirror above the tub. LED lights feature approximately 40 pre-set “scenarios,” from thunderstorm to sunrise, each changing colors depending on the clients’ mood.
