Minimal With An Edge

Though this bright living room by interior designer Dolores Wolfe may be minimal, it’s anything but stark. “The homeowners didn’t want clutter. So instead of a lot of artwork and knickknacks, we have unexpected pops of color that make the room edgy,” Wolfe says. Cool blue walls and a silvery blue-gray couch and chair from Pottery Barn serve as a backdrop for cranberry red pillows and accessories. A shimmering silver ikat rug made of wool and silk covers light hardwood floors, and dark furniture pieces like the coffee and side tables pop against softer, more subtle colors in the room. Crystal lamp bases with crisp white drum shades provide an ambient light throughout the space and add a contemporary edge.
