As a seasoned wedding and events photographer, Hillary Moore, founder of The Picnic Society, has always understood the significance of capturing important moments and milestones. As her appreciation for these meaningful experiences grew, she set out not just to document them, but to create them.

The Picnic Society, which she founded in 2022, is a luxury picnic and events company that blends Moore’s eye for detail with her belief that every occasion deserves to be commemorated.
“It started with the idea that celebrations don’t have to be over the top to feel special, they just need to be thoughtful and intentional,” Moore says. “I saw an opportunity to bring something unique to the Chattanooga area – something that combined elevated design, hospitality, and experience all in one.”
From small, romantic settings to larger, group celebrations, each picnic is designed as a fully bespoke experience that’s tailored to reflect the client’s vision. The process begins with a conversation; while some arrive with a clear aesthetic in mind, others fully rely on Moore’s creative direction. From the theme to the color palette and more, clients have the final say on every detail.
“I’ve spent a lot of time curating a collection of high-quality pieces, and I’m always sourcing new items to keep things fresh and elevated,” she says. “Every detail, from the linens and florals to the personal touches, is intentional and layered to create a cohesive look.”
When it comes to the location, The Picnic Society brings each client’s dream picnic to life at a setting of their choosing or in front of one of Chattanooga’s many scenic backdrops.
“From riverfront views to mountaintop overlooks, there are so many picturesque settings that make every picnic feel special,” Moore explains. “The city also has a community that appreciates intentional, elevated experiences and people here love celebrating milestones, spending time outdoors, and creating memories with friends and family.”
Some experiences, including the Bridal Brunch Picnic and Proposal Picnic, include professional photography for a full-service package. In addition to its signature setups, the company takes luxury to yet another level with the option for add-ons such as balloon installations, a bloom bar, or even a picnic in the pool.
“Our Floating Picnic is one of our most elevated, fun, and unforgettable experiences, featuring a custom-built wooden table that floats on the water,” Moore describes. “We style it with tropical florals and bright colors, creating a resort-style vibe right in Chattanooga. Whether it’s a sunrise proposal, birthday, or intimate celebration, the floating picnic transforms a simple gathering into a magical, unforgettable moment.”
Moore’s eye for nuance and artful approach to each picnic’s design reflect a greater objective and the heart behind the company: bringing people together.
“I’m most proud of building something that allows people to slow down and be present,” Moore shares. “In such a fast-paced world, creating intentional spaces where people can connect and celebrate feels really meaningful. I’ve also taken a lot of pride in creating a brand that feels elevated but still welcoming and approachable.”
