Mountain Escape

This vacation home, resting on a 5,000 acre preserve with a man-made lake, is perfect for a family of avid hunters and fishermen. The brown cabin fits idyllically on a lakeside wooded lot. The front has a combination of cedar shingles and vertical boards which add a rustic texture to the brown façade. Two stone piers hold Y-shaped supports and a covered front porch. Placement of windows on all sides of the house allows for natural light to easily shine through. Beautiful trees surround the covered porch on the front and a screened in porch on the back.to maximize space and further connect with the outdoors, the living room tongue and groove ceiling was extended to the second story and a clerestory window was added above the back porch

Entering the home, a mahogany front door with beveled glass panes that form vertical windows on either side provides a warm, tasteful welcome. Throughout the house new furnishings contrast easily with antiques and quarter sawn white oak floors to provide a décor well suited to this lakeside cabin. As a family of avid hunters, glistening trophies are displayed throughout the house.

To maximize space and further connect with the outdoors, the living room tongue and groove ceiling was extended to the second story and a clerestory window was added above the back porch. Beams throughout the downstairs and adjoining rooms are crafted from reclaimed barn wood, as is a built-in cabinet next to the fireplace. The fireplace and cabinet anchor the living room with their visual weight and mixture of textures and materials. The living room, dining area, and kitchen have an open floor plan, so strategically placed furniture is used to define these living spaces. An oriental rug in rich tones of reds and browns complements the color scheme in the living room. Two leather club chairs are placed in front of a large window that looks onto the screened in porch. In between the chairs is a small butler’s tray table. Directly across from the fireplace is a sofa covered in a brown herringbone fabric. An antique coffee table is made from pine. At one end of the fireplace angled toward the other furnishings is a wood framed reclining chair and footstool covered in a blue diamond patterned fabric. Similar shades of blue are used in navy floral draperies hung from custom made iron rods used throughout the cabin.

The dining room’s furnishings are well suited to the informal and comfortable interior design. A round oak pedestal dining table was custom made for the room. Six side chairs covered in a beige herringbone fabric embellish the table’s design. A chandelier made from iron and wooden beads holds eight shaded candles and perfectly complements the décor and other architectural details for the cabin. A bank of windows and French doors that open to the screened-in back porch further provide an abundance of natural light for the dining room.
