Outdoor Escapes: Living Panorama

The goal was a magnificent challenge: build a pool and pool house at the edge of the cliff without blocking the view from the house. “The trickiest part of the job was attaching the above-ground structure to the rock face in a way that it couldn’t move,” says Tim Burns of Burns Construction Company, who was the general contractor. The homeowners called in Caughman + Caughman Architects to engineer the extremely complex substructure before anything else. “The pool and outdoor living area are magnificent,” Burns says. “And the substructure is unbelievable. Chris and Lisa St. Charles had the vision, and it was our job to make it happen.” Taking the designs, Burns Construction built every detail to exact specifications, using the company’s experience and expertise to ground the structure to the mountainside. The finished product looks effortless: a majestic infinity edge pool flanked by a full outdoor kitchen, patio and pool house on one side and a rustic fire pit on the other – all grounded tightly to the edge of the ridge.
