Premier Living

When John and Pattie McCormick relocated from Philadelphia to Ooltewah in 2007, they had one requirement for their new home: it had to be located on a golf course. After finding a property they fell in love with, they set out to build their dream house and bring their vision to life. Years later, as their tastes evolved, so did their vision for the space.

The home’s remodeled interior is a visual treat characterized by a modern, upscale design, comfort, and wide-open spaces – the principal motive for the redesign. “We knew we wanted to open up the kitchen, expose the great room, and bring in more natural lighting,” John shares. “What started as a few simple upgrades turned into a complete overhaul of the entire main level.”

The entryway sets the tone, unfolding into an airy, light-filled area marked by soaring ceilings and rich hardwood floors. The first space that catches the eye is one of several luxurious lounge areas, where a grand piano, gold accents, and a pair of blue-striped barrel club chairs subtly denote class and elegance. Adjacent is a casual dining setup with a round, wooden table and cream upholstered chairs – perfect for slow mornings and casual meals.

At the heart of this hosting hub is a spacious kitchen with generous counter space, a large, striking island with inset cabinetry, and timeless shaker-style cabinets that wrap around the room. Its transitional design blends warm, natural wood elements with clean, white finishes. Pattie notes it’s the details that truly make the kitchen shine, including her favorites – the custom range hood design, the quartz that carries seamlessly from the counters to the backsplash, and the pendant lighting that illuminates the island.

Just off the kitchen is a formal dining room that offers a sophisticated setting for entertaining, featuring a neutral palette, classic white wainscoting and crown molding, and a brass shaded chandelier overhead. At its center, a large oval dining table is made complete by a set of tufted wingback chairs.

The main level continues its effortless flow into the family room, one of the McCormicks’ most cherished spaces. “The family room is where we spend the most time together,” John says, “and Pattie absolutely loves the limestone cast fireplace mantels; she loves the colder months and being able to have the fire going while enjoying our time together.”

While the interior redesign has elevated every corner of the home, some of Pattie’s and John’s favorite moments take place just beyond its walls. “We love spending time out on our porch watching the golfers and enjoying the beauty of the course and the scenery,” John explains. “It’s where we have our morning coffee to start the day or glass of wine in the evening.” For an avid golfer like John, the location is more than just scenic. “I can be on the 17th tee box with my cart from the lower garage in less than two minutes,” he adds. “I’m truly spoiled.”

After a day on the course, the McCormicks can retreat to their primary suite, a serene space permeated by soft blues and gold. A plush bed dressed in soft cream linens and anchored by an upholstered headboard sets a calming tone, while a blue-and-white patterned area rug introduces subtle movement and color underfoot. At the foot of the bed, a coordinating bench featuring delicate gold metalwork brings additional charm, while a fireplace with various blue-hued tiles is a striking focal point.

To complete the space, the en suite bathroom stuns with a glass-enclosed walk-in shower, herringbone-patterned floor tiles, beige checkered shower tiles, a freestanding soaking tub, and his-and-her-style vanities with ample storage and counter space.

By opening up the main level to create a more cohesive, elevated design, the McCormicks’ renovation – paired with the golf course setting they had always envisioned – brought their dream home fully to life.
