This backyard oasis highlights its mountain setting with a rustic poolscape beckoning visitors to make a splash. At the center of it all is a freeform pool and spa built directly into the yard’s slope, working with Mother Nature to create an organic, natural feel to the space. Materials were carefully chosen to continue the trend – large boulders are married with slabs of crab orchard flagstone and travertine decking, while stack flagstone on the face of the walls adds to the effect. The pool’s stone waterfall and grotto, however, truly embrace the aesthetic; water spills into the pool as if mimicking a Tennessee mountain stream, and a hidden grotto offers a private, shaded retreat where one can escape and relax. Seating arrangements placed throughout the backyard – including a set of four Adirondack chairs surrounding a fire pit on the upper terrace – provide multiple vantage points for taking in the serene scenery.
