Verdant Elegance on the Mount

Premier Living

Atop Signal Mountain, a glistening vessel of old-world craftsmanship sits nestled beneath a greenwood canopy that inspired every detail of its stunning redesign. Throughout every room and architectural element, nature is at the core – exactly as its homeowners intended.

Using finesse, fabrics, art, antiques, and more, the home’s aesthetic, which the homeowners describe as “woodlands elegant,” is rooted in a deep reverence for the outdoors. From cedar garage doors to poplar bark on the exterior’s siding – which is also echoed within the interior – natural materials and textiles are at the forefront of the home’s narrative.

“We designed our home with lots of windows and minimal window treatments to let God’s creation be the featured ‘artwork’ of our home. Lots of people comment on our use of natural poplar bark as an accent in our exterior and interior design.” – Homeowner

Inspired by the surrounding landscape, the home is layered with furnishings and textiles reflective of nature, creating a sense of continuity throughout. The foyer welcomes friends with a grouping of mounted birds in flight offering a quiet, artful reference to the fields beyond. Nearby, the kitchen is refreshing with apple green cabinetry and a hand-finished stone arch over the cooktop – details that lend a sense of warmth and understated, cottage-like charm.

Designed for gathering, the polished living room – the space that the homeowners feel best captures the true essence of the home – is defined by comfortable seating and meaningful, personal details.
A custom oil painting by a local artist brings vitality, warmth, and a sense of color harmony to the room, while decorative Schumacher pillows offer a subtle nod to a family heritage of hunting dogs.

An antique barbershop mirror; rich leather accents; a black ebony piano; an emerald green sofa; and antique mahogany chairs establish a layered, refined foundation, allowing the room to remain oriented toward the sweeping mountain vistas beyond. The homeowners share, “While the décor is a bit formal, we wanted everyone to relax and put their feet up. Even the elegant crocodile-embossed leather coffee table is shoe-, pet-, and child-friendly!”

Resuming the verdant color scheme, the chinoiserie-style dining room is ready to welcome guests for any occasion. “We have hosted first birthdays and 85th birthdays in this home,” the homeowners say, “and we love that it is well-built and well-cared-for in order to host many more.” Wrapped in a scenic floral Chinois Palais wallpaper by Schumacher, the room feels layered and inviting, with coordinating accents and glass details adding warmth and a soft glow. Anchoring the marble dining table, a garden-inspired arrangement of hydrangea, ferns, and moss is presented in a faux bois container – an understated yet intentional detail that carries the home’s connection to nature indoors.

“Our most recent redecorating reflects our family’s past, priorities, and personality. At the same time, our designer helped us update for future generations to enjoy gathering here. We hope it’s an inviting place to host visitors, ministries, and civic groups, and entertain dinner parties, barbecues, and overnight guests.” – Homeowner

The primary suite offers a sense of quiet retreat, introducing a softer, more ethereal expression of the home’s nature-inspired design. Layers of delicate blue, seen in the drapery, a cozy seating vignette, and crisp bed linens, create a palette that recalls sky and water, lending the room a calm, restful atmosphere. Generous windows fill the space with natural light while framing views of the surrounding foliage.

As with the rest of the home, this private retreat reflects a thoughtful balance of beauty and meaning. Textures, patterns, and color are carefully layered to create continuity, while also honoring the people and stories that shape the home. The homeowners add, “Through our home’s design, incorporation of historic family pieces, and quality craftsmanship, we aim to reflect our appreciation of family; hospitality; nature; our ancestors’ life stories; the privilege of living where and with whom we get to live; and, most of all, God – who created it all!”
