With this recipe from local restaurant Zaya 1943, you can skip the store-bought stuff in just a few simple steps.

Zaya 1943's A5 Wagyu Marinade

Prep Time 10 minutes
Marinate Time 3 hours

Ingredients
  

For the marinade:

  • cup sugar
  • 1 cup sake
  • 1 Asian pear
  • 1 onion
  • ½ cup garlic
  • cup ginger
  • ½ cup sesame oil

For garnish:

  • ¼ cup sesame seeds
  • ½ cup chopped green onion

Instructions
 

  • Whisk half of the sugar into the sake and pour onto the meat.
  • Place Asian pear, onion, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil into a blender.
  • Blend for 45 seconds or until smooth.
  • Add the other half of the sake and sugar into the blender and blend until mixed well.
  • Pour blended ingredients onto the beef and marinate for 3 hours before cooking.
  • Garnish grilled meat by sprinkling sesame seeds and green onions on top.
