Engines At Porsche, the only thing that matters is this question: how can we become even better and redefine the limits of engineering? The new 911 is the future with a quantum leap in performance.

Developed completely from scratch, the six-cylinder twin-turbo engines of the 911 Carrera and Targa 4 models offer a high engine speed combined with good modulation of power output. The result is an extra 20 hp of power, an extra 43 lb.-ft. of torque, engine speeds of up to 7,500 rpm, and up to 13% in reduced fuel consumption.

The engine of the 911 Carrera and 911 Targa 4 models reaches 370 hp. The maximum torque of 325 lb.-ft. is available from as low as 1,700 rpm. With Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), the 911 Carrera can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 293 km/h.

The propulsive potential of the engine in the S models, featuring upsized turbochargers and an independent exhaust system, is even more impressive. It generates 420 hp and the maximum torque is a mighty 368 lb.-ft., starting from as low as 1,700 rpm. With Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) and Launch Control, the 911 Carrera S sprints to 100 km/h in a mere 3.9 seconds. Top speed isn’t reached until 306 km/h.

Sports exhaust system It’s a first for any Porsche turbocharged boxer engines, and it’s a technical innovation. Available as an option for the new 911, the sports exhaust system features two catalytic converters and a rear silencer which lead into two centrally positioned tailpipes that provide a look more likely to be seen on the racetrack.

Sport Chrono Package  The functions of the optional Sport Chrono Package enable an even sportier tuning of the chassis, engine and transmission. A new mode switch on the steering wheel, derived from the 918 Spyder, makes you feel closer to the racetrack. Without your hand leaving the steering wheel, you can choose any of four settings: Normal, SPORT, SPORT PLUS and Custom and adapt the vehicle even more to the way you want to drive.

Brakes  The brake system of the new 911 has been upgraded for enhanced stability and braking performance. The 911 Carrera base models are fitted with newly developed four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed calipers with a black anodised finish. The S models are equipped with red sixpiston aluminium monobloc fixed brake calipers at the front and four-piston equivalents at the rear. The brake chambers at the front axle are now made from aluminium. Brake disc diameters are 350 mm at the front, 330 mm at the rear.

Interior The new generation 911 provides synergies between engineering and design, and sportiness and comfort. Among many new features are the new sports steering wheel, an ascending center console, suspension settings, and a two-zone air conditioning system. Five round instruments make a sporty contribution and provide information efficiently and accurately. New Porsche Communication Management (PCM), including the online navigation module and 7-inch multi-touchscreen, is integrated as standard.

7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)

The new Macan is equipped with the 7-speed PDK transmission, which changes gear in fractions of a second with no interruption to the flow of power. Whenever a particular gear is engaged, the next gear is already preselected. Gear changes take place in milliseconds providing for a sporty, dynamic and agile driving feel.

Porsche Traction Management (PTM)

The Porsche Traction Management (PTM) active all-wheel drive system includes an electronic and map-controlled multi-plate clutch, automatic brake differential (ABD), and anti-slip regulation (ASR). Sensors continuously check the rotation speeds of all four wheels, the longitudinal and lateral acceleration of the vehicle, and the steering angle. You can feel what it’s like to be driving a genuine sports car: traction, driving safety, outstanding steering behavior, superior handling, and excellent dynamics typical of Porsche.

VarioCam Plus System

With VarioCam, the intake and exhaust camshafts are each equipped with a fully variable vanecell controller for stepless timing adjustments. This delivers high specific power and torque – even at low engine speeds – and, above all, reduced fuel consumption and low emissions. The VarioCam Plus switches the lift of the intake valves, resulting in instant acceleration and smooth engine running performance.

Direct fuel injection (DFI)

With millisecond precision, the DFI injects fuel at up to 200 bar directly into the combustion chamber. By enabling a homogeneous distribution of air/fuel mixture, spray and cone angles are optimized for torque, power output, fuel consumption, and emissions.

Efficiency-enhancing measures

To improve fuel economy, the auto start/ stop function switches the engine off when coming to a stop at traffic lights. The coasting function decouples the engine from the transmission to make optimum use of momentum and to coast for longer distances. The radiator grille shutter opens cooling air flaps only as needed to improve aerodynamics, and the electrical system is recharged on demand during engine overrun phases to further reduce fuel consumption.

Sports tailpipes and exhaust system

Available in a choice of silver or black and a highly polished chrome-plated stainless steel finish, twin dual-tube tailpipes are a treat for both the eyes and the ears.

Exterior design

The face alone of the new Macan reflects the sporty genes of its hereditary line. The bonnet stretches through to the wheel arches. The side profile is typically Porsche. The roof line slopes distinctively down towards the rear. New side blades make the proportions of the doors appear narrower and the flanks seem much sleeker and sportier. In sizes of up to 21 inches, the wheels of the Macan are equally eye-catching. At the rear, the classic Porsche sports car design reveals itself: slender at the top and widening into broad shoulders above the rear wheels.

Interior design

The instrument panel has a three-tube design – just like in a classic sports car with a cockpit-style layout. In typical Macan fashion, sporty front seats convey a sense of height above the road without any loss of intimacy. A 4.8-inch color screen displays information from the on-board computer. A newly developed multifunction three spoke sports steering wheel further inspires the sportiness of the Macan. The palette of materials and decors ranges from classic to sporty.
