Instructions
Wash strawberries and allow to dry on a paper towel.
Melt chocolate and shortening in a double boiler on low to medium heat, stirring occasionally until smooth. Once smooth, turn to lowest setting.
Insert toothpicks into the tops (stem ends) of the strawberries and place back on the paper towel.
One at a time, hold a strawberry by the toothpick and dip it into the chocolate mixture. Remove and hold over the chocolate until it’s done dripping.
Turn the chocolate-covered strawberry upside down and insert the toothpick into a Styrofoam block, or place it on a sheet of wax paper.
Repeat with the remaining strawberries.
Once cooled, you can drizzle them with white chocolate, coat them in sprinkles, or top with cookie crumbs or chopped nuts. Have fun and create while you cook!
Notes
Note: You can also use the microwave to melt the chocolate and shortening, stirring every 20 seconds until the mixture is smooth. If the mixture gets too thick, add ½ teaspoon of shortening and stir until smooth.
